I want to try a KUBE (type of KEF equalizer) in a balanced system, but the KUBE has only RCA connections. When I inserted the KUBE with XLR to RCA and RCA to XLR connectors, my previously non-audible noise floor developed a sizzle, a kind of HF hum. Is there a trick to introducing such a setup without incurring noise? Balanced lines run about 15' from a Cary 11a processor to a Proceed Amp 3 near the speakers. I tired terminating the lines for the LR channels into RCA connectors, leaving the third line that drives the center channel balanced. I assume I'm creating a grounding problem, but is there a fix? It's trivial to stay RCA from KUBE to Amp 3 if that might help, but less trivial to change from XLR to RCA from processor to KUBE. db |
