I'm not sure whether to make the VenHaus Flavor 1 or Flavor 2 type power cord for my CD player. All the non-shielded cables I tried out-did any shielded cables. I was wondering if the design of the player was the cause of this, what with its use of tubes, or if the particular shielded cables I used were not suitable for it (namely a Eupen ferrite-impregnated cable). I swear the impact was like using the cable on the amplifier - dynamics and air were constricted.

Or, is it *always* a better idea to aim for shielding a digital source's power cable?

I tried a few (including the late Bob Crump's AA cord, VH Flavors 1, 2 & 4(!), DIY originals and DIY versions of Alan Maher's braided cord) and finally settled on the VH Flavor 1 (shielded) for use with my JD-100. Although I must admit I couldn't tell much difference between shielded and un-shielded, the shielded cables did seem a "little" quieter.
