Dear Jon and fellow inmates,

I cam across Jon's review regarding silver foil Ubyte and I think he is using silver foil and solid copper core with Belden. I came across this

and wonder if I replace the copper foil with a silver one can make a good cable? Is there anything against using a solid silver instead of the solid copper core ?

That does look like a high quality cable, but its core is only 1.05 mm, and the overall cable appears not large enough in AWG to be used as speaker cable. It looks great for digital cable application, though..

What about this one with double the core?

Due to the smallish AWG involved, UBYTE-2 speaker cables will work best with low/medium power amp into upper-normal/high sensitivity speakers. These are not for 1000 watts into 84 dB sensitive speakers.

This double coax you linked also looks like a very high-quality cable, but it looks to work best for AES/EBU cable or perhaps analogue interconnect. You can certainly try it in UBYTE-2 configuration and see; no one can tell you how it's going to sound ahead of time.

Just remember that the reason we use Belden 82248 and 89292 is that it's high quality in the parts you need (center solid core copper surrounded by foamed teflon) but the rest of the cable (braid shield, cheap jacketing) are stripped off. Due to the cheap parts one discards anyway, these Beldens are not too expensive to buy..

I see! Thanks for your reaponse. I am actually running an active system with each amp driving a driver only. So the load is very constant and the sensitivity is quite high.
