Quick question guys, if you please: I am sending my interconnects to be re-terminated, but, I don't have a spare pair of interconnects laying around. I do, however, have a 20' pair of Mogami Gold microphone cables. Can I use them temporarily until I get my cables back?

p.s. Sorry if this is a stupid question. I just want to make sure there aren't any potential mismatches before I hook them up.

I've previously used Cardas microphone cables made into pre/power interconnects (purchased ready-made from Audio 2000 in Tokyo). Very pleased with the sound, clear detailed nothing dramatically wrong...and cheap!

Please excuse me just two question
1) which RCA plugs do you have used ?
2) how have you connected them ?
From a structural point of view I think that a lot of audio IC resemble very close to mic cable, but I could be mistaking.
Maybe Bryston in the past used Canare mic cable for its XLR ICs ?
Thanks a lot and kind regards,
beppe

Thank you so much for your kind and very interesting reply.
I looked at your system.
I see you use powered speakers, a solution I am really thinking about.
It seems very rational.
I would be very interested to know how Mogami Gold XLR Cables compare to your VH Audio Flavor 4s
I had very good experience with Canare mic cable some years ago.
The seller, a friend, said to me that also some recording studio of my city used them extensively.
About audiophile brand I was recommended the Cardas XLR, even the cheapest models should do.
My point after all is that if an XLR cable is good for a very good mic it should also be good as an ICs
Unfortunately My present system is all unbalanced, and this complicates things.
Thanks a lot again
Kind regards,
beppe

P.S. very few post in the forum ... maybe cables are a matter of the past ?

Professional audio has different concerns and priorities than home hi-fi does.

Pro's often need a cable that is very flexible, yet can be run over with a rack full of equipment without failing. This dictates the use of materials that may not not be the best for sonic quality, but are tough yet flexible.

Pro cables usually aren't gold-plated, and usually do not use exotic insulation, or super high purity conductors.

So a professional cable may not provide the same levels of sonic purity and performance as a high-end home cable.

Also realize that a pro may be using ten to a hundred times as many cables as someone in a home hi-fi rig, thus, their cost for the cable MUST be more reasonable than for a home cable. Again, this lower cost dictates a lower quality of materials, less complex geometry, and so on.

Pro does not necessarily equate to higher sonic quality, just a better suitability for the requirements of pro use.

In fact, the opposite might be true, see:

First of all Good Evening Mr Risch and thank you sincerely for all your very kind suggestion I have always read with the greatest interest.

Actually I bought my first "audiophile" cable an unbalanced Cardas 300B Microtwin mainly on the basis of its use at Ma Recording for making a very good sounding cd I own.
My point was that if a cable is good enough to connect a high end microphone to a HE mic preamp for making a HE recording then it
should be good enough also for connecting a cd to a preamp.
Now that I think better I should have it in the xlr form to be more confident and use it in a balanced system.
Unfortunately I do not think that unbalanced microphones exist ?
Do they ?
Is my approach uncorrect ?
Thanks a lot again and kind regards,
beppe

These Mogamis sound pretty good. At 80 bucks, I'd say they are a bargain.

Actually, the Flavor 4s are the power cords. My reference ICs are the VH Audio Symmetries. They are Excellent cables. Compared to the microphone cables I have plugged in now, they are more open. More air. I would recommend anything from VH Audio. Chris VenHaus is very knowledgeable and makes high quality products. He is also a very nice guy and will answer your emails promptly.
