Hi All,

I currently use Chris VenHaus's DIY silver interconnect cable with Eichmann Silver Bullets. The cables works very well and I like them very much.

I am ready to build a couple more pairs of the same cable and I am debating wether to stay with Silver Bullets or try NextGen Silvers. Because the NextGen Silvers are significantly more expensive, I am wondering if it is worth the expense.

Have any one out there compared NextGen Silver and Silver Bullet versions of Chris' DIY silver IC cables? If so can you share with me how they were different in your system? Did you think NextGens are worth extra $$?

Thank you!
Ike

I've decided to bite the bullet and buy the NextGen Ags. Will report back to the asylum my views about Silver Bullet vs NextGens.

Not tested with VH cables, but on our own silver cables which are rather similar in concept.

We first critically listen tested copper Next Gens against copper Bullets - and in our ears the Bullets were far ahead - to the point that the Next Gens sounded no better than $0.50 Radio shack RCAs.

Then we took the metal outer cover completely off the Next Gens - and they came to life - now *almost* the equal of Bullets. But then you can't lock them, and they become rather fragile in use.

We never had silver Next Gens available, but silver Bullets are noticably better than copper Bullets - which why we decided on silver Bullets for our unbalanced interconnects.

Ike,

for pure silver cable the Eichmann silver bullets and the WBT AG 102 have different characteristics

Eichmann more detail and clarity, better soundstage, lack of bass

WBT sounded louder, more body, fuller sounding than Eichmann

overall WBT seems to be the better choice

This has nothing to do with Chris's products, just the WBTs in general. I made some cables with NextGen Silvers (from Parts Express) and silver wire (Homegrown Audio). Sounded great.

But if you don't have the special WBT tool (assumption here) to disassemble the connectors, you either have to solder them assembled (hard to do) or take your chances disassembling them. My first cable builds turned out fine, but I later made the mistake of trying to reuse the connectors on different cables.

Once you break the cheap little plastic pins inside the connectors, you'll be kicking yourself in the you know what for spending way too much of your $$ for connectors which IMHO are way overpriced. Sorry, someone has to say it.

Thanks Geoff, I have read this review as well which got me thinking. Unfortunately, it did not included Silver Bullets in the review mix :-<

Sorry, no comparisons with the two you are looking at but, FWIW, I just completed a pair of the silver IC's using caulk backer and 24awg cotton covered solid silver wire. I used these connectors:

http://www.vhaudio.com/images/furutech-fp-108r-rca.jpg

"The Furutech FP-108R is a new solderless, locking RCA that uses Furutech's (Alpha) OCC rhodium-plated center conductor, a Copper alloy rhodium-plated body, Copper alloy black-painted locking housing, and Teflon insulation. Solderless cable connection is achieved through the use of set screws. Will acommodate cable diameters up to 9.3mm max. Dimensions: 13.8mm diameter x 54mm overall length."

I will be trying them out for the first time tomorrow and my comparisons will be against Purist Venustas and Harmonic Technology Magic II.

Hi Mitch,

I found that Chris' DIY silver cable using his wires etc. are really something else. I used his teflon tubing (not caulk backer which is supposed to be better...) and Silver Bullet plugs. I've used many different cables in my system but if my memory serves right, nothing came close. I look forward to hearing your impressions.
