Anyone has the old AN-E SP ?

I was reading this website http://www.mostlyaudio.com/Spk03_Wadding.html
It says that "Audio Note's philosophy is to use a minimum of wadding in their cabinets and not to attach the wadding - it should simply be formed inside the cabinets in such a way that it will remain in place."

But when i opened my AN-E SP, there was lots of wadding inside, so much so that almost 70%-80% of the cabinet was filled with it. Is this normal or someone has changed the wadding inside my AN-E ?

Thanks for the help.

Dear Tango T,

This is normal, there should be exactly 216 grams of wadding, spread out in three parts of the cabinet,

1.) immediately behind the woofer

2.) above the tweeter

3.) below the port

In about equal amounts, that is what we do now and what should work on your speakers as well.

Sincerely,
Peter Qvortrup

do you mean directly behind the woofer on the back of the cabinet, posted on November 15, 2009 at 10:33:26

or actually touching the woofer attached to the front?

I presume the second one but want to be sure before I open the cabinet.

thanks Peter for your continued support

thanks

Phil

Dear Phil,

We attach to the back of the cabinet which is where the crossover sits, normally the cables that go to the tweeter and woofer will hold the wadding in place quite nicely.

Hello Peter Q and others

I just finished the raw cabinet, and are about to install wadding etc.

My wadding sheets weight about 240 gram (so that is according to peter Q)
However it only measures about 102cm x 66 cm. It seems a bit less than the 52-inches x 35-inches meansioned at http://www.mostlyaudio.com/Spk03_Wadding.html

If i cut a piece off (to hang behind the woofer), that will shorten the "102cm-direction", - then it is not long enough, to cover the sides of the cabinet ... (the top piece should measures about 35+33+35cm (side+top+side)). The bottum piece is only required to be about 30+33+30cm

I could cut the "woofer"-piece of the side instead, since the side of the cabinet only measures about 23cm (inside the cabinet), - so 66cm - 2x23cm = 20 cm for woofer

what do you think, about this departure form the manual?

Dear P,

We cart the material out so it takes up more room, try doing that.

When I got my Kit03 some four years back I installed the thin white Dacron waddings, but about a year ago I replaced them with wool waddings because my other B&W 801s were filled with wool. I haven't seen a factory assembled AN-E, so I assume they are filled with wool instead of Dacron sheets(price difference?).
