Hello,

I am a new owner of a Kit 2 amplifier and have been enjoying it for almost a month now. I know there are a few others who have built and use this amplifier, and I was wondering if anyone has experimented with removing the feedback loop from the speaker tap to driver board. Is this a really bad idea. I like the way the amplifier sounds, but I just got this crazy idea to maybe add the last bit of refinement. Is it necessary to the stability of the kt88's?

Thanks,

alan

Hello Alan,

it should be possible to remove the feedback without any large problems related to this.
Or at least this is what I've heard.

Now on my Kit2 I have removed the negative feedback,
BUT also rewired the output tubes for Triode operation.
You then have to remove the power supply to the Grid2, then add a 100ohm
resistor from Grid2 to Plate, now it is in triode operation.

The gain of the amplifier will increase rather much, when the feedback is
removed.

How to deal with that, well I have some plans to change the driver tubes to higher current/ lower gain types.
Probably need some other changes to get this right to.

BTW; My amp had 12AU7/5814A Jan Philips Tubes instead of the 12AX7.
So I'm not sure if it's already changed from original already.
Have now rewired it for 6N2P-EV tubes, but there seem to be something
that is not perfect. I'll get to the bottom of it.

Good luck with your amp.
