I just picked up this little stereo single ended 6bq5 amp which probably came out of an old console stereo. The driver tube that is supplied was a 6AN8. I don't know anything about the amp as it has no tags or identification but that 6AN8 doesn't seem to be correct.
I would think that the input tube would be a dual triode so that each channel would receive an equal signal. The 6an8 is used with push pull amps as a driver/splitter tube for each channel. That doesn't seem like a tube needed for this single ended amp.
If anyone knows or has info about this type of amp please let me know. thanx in advance, Dak

There is only one 6AN8? Or one per channel?

Yes sir, just the one 6an8. It did not make sense to me so I thought i would ask the folks out there if anyone had an amp like it to compare. I have no schematic, but i guess i should trace out the connections to the input tube and see what that indicates. Thanx for checking. best regards, Dak

It could use a solid state setup or an interstage transformer to develop the split signal

The amp is a stereo unit with a single el84 per channel and as i received it, there was a 6an8 for the input/driver tube which doesn't seem right. Even if the signal was split before the 6an8 how does that tube work since it is a pentode + triode unit.

A minor suggestion, please don't use all CAPS it seems like yelling to me. All caps is thought to be impolite, for your benefit Just sayin---
