I have a system consisting of INT AMP + CD player. When playing music, the sound from 1 speaker sometimes disappears. At other times, a scratching noise is generated followed by silence. At first, I thought this was due to defective CDs but that turned out not to be case. When I adjust the volume control on the amp, the problem goes away (i.e. when I turn the volume way up and then turn it back down). I also suspected this was a problem with the CD player but had that examined and it was fine. I now suspect the Amp is the problem, especially as turning the volume knob makes the problem go away. Any view on whether the amp is the problem here?

Thanks for the advice. Its a NAD S300 int amp purchased in 1999.

If it has one, clean it (or replace it). I have seen this problem with NAD, even with new amplifiers.
