Amp's fuses blowing on B&K EX442 / AE-3 system

I have a problem with my 6 amp 32V speaker fuses (which are on the B&K EX442, by the speaker terminals) blowing every time I turn on the amp, then the AES AE-3 preamp. About ten seconds after the preamp is turned on, the speakers give a 'pop' and the fuses are toast. When I turn on the preamp first, then wait about thirty seconds, then turn on the amp, all is fine.
Yeah, I know, just turn on the preamp first, easy fix right? Well I'd rather find out and fix what might be sending the surge through the amp which is blowning fuses. Anyone out there know what I might check to figure out how to eliminate these surges? Thanks for your help.

This is just a WAG, as I am not familiar with your pre-amp or amp. But, does the pre-amp have a delay-relay switch? Maybe this is causing some sub-sonic impulse through the amp and excessive current out to the speakers. Esp if it always happens 10 seconds after you turn on the pre-amp. If this is the case, you just need to remember the correct sequence of switching on the units.

I missed putting in one point....... the fuses weren't blowing previously when I turned the amp on first, then the preamp. I was getting a little 'pop' after 10 seconds. Now its a big 'POP' along with blown fuses. As long as I turn the preamp on first, wait at least 15 seconds, then turn on the amp, all is okay, but something must be going south if it is beginning to blow fuses and it did not before.

Now more testing........, posted on November 9, 2009 at 22:58:39

I unhooked the B&K EX-442 and connected in a Magnavox SE 6BQ5 amp, then turned on SE amp, then the preamp, and there was no pop, no noise at all. I also checked through the AE-3 manual and there is no turn-on delay. So, either there is something not compatible with the EX-442 and the AE-3 somewhere or there is an issue with the EX-442. Got any ideas what I might check next?
