 Need some help here. I would normally go with a Variac procedure on long idle amplifiers (this one has been sitting for at least 5 years - if not longer!) but I'm given to understand that there may JFet devices involved in this particular situation and that those devices and Variacs might not get along too well.
I have neither the knowledge or qualifications to make an educated decision so I'm throwing the question to this sage and august body of experts.

Any advice is gratefully appreciated.

 What is the problem w/Jfets?
Can you take it to a good tech for a cold start / checkout.
It may be worth your while and minimize downside risk?
