I just picked up a couple of Duets and Quintets for my A/V systems. However, I noticed that there are a few different tightness level within those power ports. I am using the same AC plug for this experiment.1) Some power ports are easy to plug in and unplug.
2) Some power ports are hard to plug in and unplug, but manageable with just the force of your hands.
3) Some power ports are extremely hard to plug in and unplug. You really need your body weight to help push the AC plug in.I have a Duet with all type 1 power ports and a Duet with all type 3 power ports. However, for the Quintet, I have a combination of all three types of power ports.
I don't think it is normal to have such a large variations in tightness within those power ports. I have never used this newer power ports style but I heard that this has happen to the older power port style used in the UPC-200 and PS Audio do offer warranty replacement for the power ports that do not offer a tight grip. For this newer power port style, which tightness level of grip is considered normal? Has anyone experienced the same problem that I have?
Just took delivery today of the Duet...and experiencing the
same tight problem. Altho it tightness seems to depend on the
type of power cord you are plugging in. I have a Marinco branded
male plug and it was a total bitch to plug in. I have two standard
plugs that are fixed to the source components and they were easier
to plug in...altho' exhibited a push to get them in as well.

The Duet and Quintet plugs can be quite stiff to push a connector in. We actually worked hard a specifying the right materials to keep a strong grip, so rather than a defect it's something we wanted in the Power Port.

So Paul,I understand that you like to build a Power Port with strong grip and we all want it. But, please read my initial post.
I am using the SAME ac plug and find that there are different level of grip amoung the 10 outlets within ONE Quintet and there are different between TWO Duets as well. Is it because of QC problem? I just like to know what level of grip should we expect.

Ah, sorry about that. I too have seen some variability in grip strength on the Quintets and all meet our requirements for pull force and most exceed it. I am not sure what to tell you for a standard though....personally, the ones with the grip of death make me feel better. :)
