Hello Brian,A few months ago you were experimenting with a 9 driver Jordan array. Do you have any pictures and impressions that you care to share? Has the project been ditched? I'm also fiddling with both of the Jordans at the moment and am interested in the various implementations floating around. I have a view to a curved array.
Done and playing daily in my office.
The 9 drivers give much improved dynamics (in our room compared to the 4driver array) and excellent coherence as they are driven 100hz to their hf limit.
They needed compensation to tame a midrange bulge so some of the efficiency gain of a line array is lost but our 300B drive them comfortably in our largish room.
I would describe the sound as very silky smooth and and high resolution.
Combing and lobing are noticeable as you move around; the stereo image shifts as you move laterally and hfs drop out when moing vertically so listening requires staying within a narrow sweet spot.
Because of that and the cost (9 x 250USD for the drivers alone), I don't think this could be a commercial product as it stands. I'm thinking of adding a single ribbon tweeter (a Jordan would be better but a Fountek ribbon would pretty well match the system in efficiency) crossed over at about 6K (where combing becomes noticeable) to see if the hf issues can be resolved. Power tapering is another option as it would be nice to stick to all Jordan drivers. Will post more as we have it.
Thanks Brian,You prempted my question about integration with the dynaphon! I only have a few hours on the JXR6's and the highs are still a little rough. How long did you have to break them in for?
regards
AGI ran them in a couple weeks, but never found the highs to be rough; it was more a case of them opening up and becoming more extended and relaxed as they ran in. It is a very smooth driver and very revealing, more like a ribbon than a cone in performance.
Thanks Brian,I'm using them open baffle (6db High pass at 280hz) but they are 600mm from the rear wall, so I think the reflected wave may be effecting things. I'll drag them out and see and also try a sealed enclosure. I assume your boxes are sealed, are you using the same volume as per the Jordan web site, approx 6.6L per driver? One , more question, are you using a 3 x 3 loom to wire the drivers?
thanks and regards
AG
The net volume of the box is 16L, sealed and starts to roll off ~150hz.
The Jordan JXr6 have no rear suspension (free-to-air) and are not suitable for an open baffle. You will get a very different sound in a sealed cabinet.
Yes driver wired 3 x 3. Keep us posted.

As some may wonder:
The Dynafone bass driver shown, in a 30L sealed box blends very well with the Jordan in transient response, tonal balance and articulation. The Jordan's need a sub and preferably one of the same gender.
