In Reply to: For 1500$ how is the 777 as a transport? posted by John PA on January 17, 2001 at 15:28:17:
George Sallit seems to really like it as a transport with the Audio Note DACs (which I believe you have).Do a search here, and on the so called Hi-Rez forum. There are lots positive comments on the 777 as a transport.
I'm kinda partial to my CEC TL5100Z belt drive, for 40% the cost of the 777. Not as analytically detailed as the 777 is in a hi-fi-ish way, but more natural sounding. It suits my tastes better.

Thank you for your observations.
I have done a search but so far have not come up with everything I was looking for. I was also wondering with more "water under the bridge", if more comparisons have been made. In addition, since more 777's have been bought recently I imagine there is more experience now with the unit as a transport. You commented that the 777 is hi-fi-ish. Are you referring to the dac section or when used as a transport?

But as a transport, the cabling could be a factor, as some report that the 777 sounds very good. I didn't audition the 777 long enough to try a variety.
BTW, it was a fully burned in store demo unit.
