Welcome! Need support, you got it. Or share you ideas and experiences.
I am really jazzed about the Laurels, but I would like to actually listen to them before plunking down the big bucks. Any suggestions, short of flying to Colorado (which I've considered)? I live in California about twenty miles north of San Francisco. Thanks, Jim.
Follow Ups:
in Santa Cruz. Through my sweet Radio Shack speakers.
Go ahead and laugh, you'd be surprized! The Laurels are
great, although I built mine over a bottle of wine and have
a few kinks I need to iron out someday.Cheers,
~joeld
I just built these Laurels last Sept 2000 and I can't describe how good they are. I live in San Jose, CA and you are welcome to audition these amps. Just let me know.
I accept your offer and I'm most grateful. I sent you an email to set up a time. Again thanks, Jim.
Any of you West Coast Laurel owners wnat to demo your hardware?Hey, Jim come out to Colorado, we'll give you a demo.
Also, we are planning an open house next month, stay tuned for the details.
Ron
Any factory second Laurel's going up for sale then????
As a side note: I do generally offer a discount at my open houses.
So drop by for a good deal.
Ron
If I am in Littletown and I make appointment and i go to your faculites do I get to hear Oris speakers with Lowther and Moondog amps?
english 2nd speaker, please squeeze my english.
Ramon.
Randy,We very rarely have seconds/cosmetic defects on our products as it is generally more cost effective to rework a defective part or throw it away than to stick it on a product and then discount the entire product 30 or 40% just to unload the defective item.
Sorry, Ron
Hi Jim,You really got to listen to those Laurels. You either look for someone from the West coast who'll let you listen to their Laurels or you could go all the way to Colorado to listen to them. I assure you, you won't be disappointed.
There's a track from Patricia Barber's Cafe Blue (can't remember the title - multivoice recording)which gave me the creeps! The voices seemed so real (scary) I almost jumped out of my chair while listening to it through the Laurels with my eyes closed.
At the moment the Laurels seem to be telling me, "Do you have any better speakers for me to really show my true potentials!"
When I have saved enough, I'll most likely buy me a better pair of speakers.

Thanks for the reply. I'll probably purchase the Laurels unheard because I definitely prefer the 300B sound and the Laurels seem like a great value, and I can solder. Though it would be great, really great, to get a preview audition. I should just get my butt over to Colorado. Jim.
I got an assembled pair in Feb 2000 with the Ultimate upgrade and I
have no desire to listen to another 300B amp(s). I had 300B's from
a respected manufacturer before these and there is no comparison. Go
for the upgrade and you will be on your way to sonic bliss.I am driving Klipsch La Scalas with external xovers using Jensen PIO
caps for xovers on the mids and tweets, Solen caps on the woofers
with Goertz inductors. Stunning results. Horns are damped and rewired
internally. I have owned these speakers for 20 years and now they are good for another 20. Tweaked, these just may be the best horns for the
$$$ if you have room for them.I got a used REL Strata II sub for the bottom octive and am way more than happy. The Scalas cut of at 45hz. They now have 'bass balls'VBG.
Also, Mullard 5AR4's seem to be the best rectifier in the Laurel's. I tried Mullard GZ37's and GZ33's but the above was the clear winner.
JMHO on the rectifier.Ron knows his stuff and is great to deal with.
Thanks Les. I am grateful for your individual email to me. I may be availed the opportunity to get to see, touch and listen to the Laurels thank to Arsenio. Jim.
