Not so curious. The wealthier states tend to have a working class that's better educated, higher paid and politically organized and active; stronger unions in other words.

EVERY union member I know voted for Obama and the Democrats, we got the vote out too.

  Someone is obviously voting Democratic in wealthy states more than in poor states. Perhaps it is more wealthy individuals who are altruistic or who are voting on social issues rather than economics. If I ever find the proper data, I will seek to find out what hypothesis is true.
