American government representatives acting criminally in a foreign sovreign country????
Who would have thought it?
Happened during the presidency of that guy... what was his name?... lies.... wars....?
...the Italian agent Nicola Calipari killed by US forces in 2005 while protecting just released hostage Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena?
If the US is unable to hold itself accountable, it will be held accountable even so.
It is a shame that so many lives are placed in peril by secret operations. It would appear that the Italian inteligence service along with their justice system are trying to initiate a return to "normality" (anyone remember what that is?).
(Imagine a film based on what really happened?)
on these situations knowing that it goes on, secretly endorsing Americans who remove terrorists from their country while making public denouncements of such acts? You think the Italians want to piss off and attract terrorists? Italy, like other European nations understand what they're dealing with and they're doing what they have to do politically.
With all due respect, I'm a bit surprised at the lack of nuance diplayed on this thread by folks who claim mastery of the form.
.. except somewhere close to home.
You write like a Bart Simpson excuse... it wasn't me, it was like that when I got here... ;-)))

When I was in the Army, there were a number of countries we soldiers were warned to stay away from in terms of vacationing or travelling on ones own free time. I won't list them all, but I will tell you that Italy was on that list. The reason is because of how easy it is to get into that country illegally and because of the number of Islamist terrorists in Italy who would love to kidnap a lone American serviceman. I'm not making legal opinions here. I'm simply explaining to you that Italy doesn't want Islamist Terrorists in its country but it's not going to go out of its way to piss them off at the risk of an attack. It would be bad for business. Italy is not alone in playing this game, there are many others.
When were you in the army and how many Islamic terrorists were you told were stalking Americans in Italy?
Of course you won't list them all... let's face it, you're not going to list any...
How comforting to know you are in the inner circle of people who know how foreign countries operate.
Sorry, mate, but you'll have to do better than that if you expect anyone to take you seriously.
;-))))))

Illegal actions in a sovereign country with orders presumably running up the chain of command... it's a bad joke isn't it?
VERY bad.

... He was so dangerous he was released without a single charge ever being laid against him.
At least the USofA authorities didn’t act as judge, jury & executioner like they routinely do against foreigners SUSPECTED , but not convicted of any crime, of being a terrorist.
