Very sorry to hear this sad news. No matter what we think of the man and his faults, he leaves behind young children who've lost their Dad. R.I.P. Michael Jackson. Here are photos of the MJ picture disc that's been hanging proudly on my wall for many months. I'm spinning "Thriller" as I write this. :-(
Here's another Michael Jackson solo LP from my collection. Probably his weakest record. Jackson was 15 when this was recorded and despite the ham-handed production on this record, his talent is undeniable. A taste of great things to come.

OK, I'll admit he could sing and dance, and he certainly sold a few records. But anyone that has such an ego as to proclaim themselves the "king of pop" thinks highly enough of themself that they don't need my admiration too.
And what happened to the "I'm black and I'm proud" attitude of his generation? All the cosmetic surgery and bleaching suggested to me he was trying to defy his own heritage. But that is only one element of his well-publicized strange behavior. So far as I'm concerned, he was king of weird!!!
Just the same, my respects to his family.
Growing old is hell related former youth.
Because it was great dance music and the music was uplifting. Of course if you were not into dancing at clubs during that era you may not get it. Also the Thriller video was a major event on MTV. It was the first short film featured on MTV. I remember watching it the night it was aired.
I was in my early 20s at the time thus very aware (too much aware) of the whole thing, guess I just didnt "get it", but then I hated dance music, was more of a "rocker". I remember the whole MTV thing too for the first time - music videos and all, many were very lame at the time, in fact i believe it filtered out those who could play music well, but not act or didnt look good on video, sorta sad in that way, at the same time i think it allowed some who could not play very well but looked and/or acted good to get into the music scene, historically a turning point in music history (80s) for those reasons. IMO for the worst. but i have to admit MJ had one of the better MTV productions, no my taste however.
Never really cared for his music, got sick of it during the 80s with Thriller and all. As for the person, what a wacked out weierdo, "shows that if you have enough money you can get away with crime", as for as "Neverland" and all goes, took "candy" and child molestation to a new level. if we learn anything its what too much fame and money can do... anyone else would have rotted in prison.
Yes obviously having sold so many records, he must have had talent, but man what a price to pay... ...not only on himself but those that surrounded him.
It's so confusing. I criticized him a lot the past 10 years or so, for reasons most of of know about, though nothing has really been proven. It was easy. He "let us down". This part of his life will always be a question, though I wish everything right and straight. He is part of the fabric of my childhood, what with the motown reunion tv show, thriller, ABC, She's out of my Life, Ben, We are the World, Billy Jean....
Watching some videos on youtube....damn...he really did give everyone his heart and soul out there.
RIP Micheal Jackson.
Have a good one.
I have only 3 MJ LP's. Thriller, Bad and Ben. It's not the quantity but the impact his work had in the late 1970s/early 1980s. He was all over Tv and radio in those days. He practically invented the music video. His producer Quincy Jones was also responsible for the phenomenal success of Thriller.
"The torture never stops"Greetings Freek.
I remember the day Thriller was released. I went to the mall with one of my best friends and he purchased the lp. We went straight to my house and played the lp. I also made a cassette of the lp so I had a copy. Many years after later I came across a sealed CBS 1/2 speed master for my own collection. (Yes, I opened and played it!)
I will never forget August 12, 1981 at the Omni in Atlanta as I attended the Jackson's Victory tour. The first half of the concert was the Jackson's and the second half of the concert was Michael as a solo act. What a great show!
Despite his faults in his later years, he is still the self-proclaimed "King of Pop" and provided millions of people with the enjoyment of his music.
