I just received a shipment with several Music Matters and other RTI pressings. Several of the pressings have whitish marks in the vinyl. Nothing that is audible, but still a bit odd.I was wondering whether anyone else noticed these. May try to post pictures later...
Thanks,
Rene

I know it sounds fine, but it will be VERY hard to sell later if you decide to get of the record.
Is it too much to ask that they send records that are all one color?
some of it gets bashed (classic) and some doesn't (AP) so i assume it's not just the plant. RTI is one of the better plants in north america.
and haven't seen this yet. If it is indeed due to the sleeve, then the new sleeves should eliminate the problem.
I had the same issue with my AP Blue Notes and got clarification that it's from the inner sleeve. If you look at the shape of the glue line that holds the poly inner in place it has the same shape. Suspect the vinyl was still warm when they put it in the sleeve causing a chemical/heat reaction with the glue. Haven't had the same issue with MM but they have since changed their inners.
That is a reasonable explanation, I will check the inner sleeves tonight. I guess I should exchange the inner sleeves then?
Several Blue Note and Music Matters had this in my last order:
Kenny Drew "Undercurrent"
Lee Morgan "Leeway"
Lou Donaldson "LD+3"
Horace Parlan "Speakin my piece"
Hugh Masekela "Hope"
Two more had minor marks.

I had the same issue with the red vinyl Norah Jones pressing from Classic Records. A bunch of black occlusions streaking the red vinyl. Plays fine, but looks like they had very little quality control over the process.
The two Music Matters pressings I have (Soul Station and Bluesnik) look and play perfect, although Bluesnik is pressed very slightly off centre.
I'll probably be ordering a few more from the MM series but if they show up like that, they'll be going back. At $70 Cnd. a pop, that is unacceptable to me even if you can't hear it and from what I've read at the Steve Hoffman forum I don't think Music Matters would be comfortable putting out a product like that.
I got several RTI pressings like that:
Kenny Drew "Undercurrent"
Lee Morgan "Leeway"
Lou Donaldson "LD+3"
Horace Parlan "Speakin my piece"
Hugh Masekela "Hope"
I find these quite annoying as well...

My original W.63rd deep groove mono Blue Train pressing has the EXACT same marks on both sides, no joke! Completely inaudible (and sounds great) but that's why I was able to pick it up cheap!

Does it look as though the black coloring isn't mixed fully in the vinyl? I have a few new LP's like this.Does not affect sound quality at all.One of the best sounding lp's I own,Raconteurs Consolers has this effect in the vinyl.
I've also noticed in some of the lp's from the 60's and 70's what looks to be chunks of label pressed in the vinyl, labels must not have been removed when recycling old lp's.
Yup, little bits of "glittery" patches as well.
Has anyone come up with an effective way to clean the white marks/residue off of the vinyl?
