. . . . use is said to extend stylus life. Does it?

how Stylast could work? Not claiming in any way that it doesn't, but it seems like with the forces involved (enough to wear down, albeit slowly, a diamond) that any liquid application would immediately be rubbed off the stylus contact points.

Don't know how it works, but there's evidence that it does work. Perhaps you can inquire at thelastfactory.com
I have always used it, but its hard to tell if it helps. Its too difficult to check with a microscope, and even if you do, there is no before and after to compare.
Just for the record, the manufacturer says, "Stylus life extension up to 10 times."
When I was in the business, and trained to evaluate styli under the microscope, a guy brought in a cartridge that had 3 years of heavy play. It looked brand new. He used Stylist, and I have used it ever since. My experience supports the manufacturers claim.

Do you think the liquid in the bottle degrades over time. I have been using my bottle for probably 20 years.
I don't know. I have replaced my bottle a few times in twenty years. I would ask the manufacturer. They are still in business AFAIK.

I agree with Dave and like him was in the business and trained to evaluate stylii under a microscope. Too, I bought a Wild-Herrbrugg microscope and use it to keep tabs on wear. Stylast definitely reduces the rate of wear by quite a bit. I think it improves S/N too.
