Why couldn't you pack up the chassis and ship it out? If you can figure out how to do that, I recommend JP Jones in NYC. I think his business is called Fidelis Analog. He really understands these devices. He will turn your unit around very rapidly, as well.
As one who spent nearly 3 years trying to find someone who could figure out my Victor TT101, until I "found" JP via a thread on diyaudio, let me tell you that there are many techs who say they can fix a vintage direct-drive and only a very rare few who really can. If you don't want to take a chance on shipping, my advice would be to have someone local replace every electrolytic capacitor inside the unit (which requires only a knowledge of how to solder), then re-test it to see where you are as far as malfunction. Chances are, replacing the lytics alone my fix your problem. However, to get the best out of it, you then want to calibrate the drive mechanism. That is a job for a pro.

Hi Lew. Thanks for the suggestion. I'd sure like to stay local, but I'll check in with JP Jones just the same.
You may think it's a lot of trouble to ship your unit, but it's worth the effort in terms of the very short turnaround time and the quality of JP's work. There are other testimonials on Audiogon and diyaudio. I have no affiliation or business connection. Just a happy customer.
