A couple of days ago I happened to find a vinyl copy of this exquisite album at one of my local shops. I have listened to my cd of it many, many times over the years. The recent vinyl pressing is a couple of steps up from the cd in every way. My goodness, what an amazing album, and so nice on vinyl. (My copy is the Nonesuch pressing released for record store day last year; very glad somebody decided they didn't want it.) I hope everybody's having such a good day spinning!
Follow Ups:
Got mine in August last year direct from Nonesuch. I saw her and the band Beacon Theatre on their tour supporting the album. Some of the vocals definitely come out better on the lps as does the Lanois production. Love the outtakes. As vinyl phanatic notes, original release are rarer than hens teeth.
Got it today for $36 and tax from a local store that had two copies left from RSD!
It sounds great! A bit more relaxed than the HDCD, but it's hard to say if that's the medium or the hardware.
I'm enjoying the Outtakes now. I'm sure glad they slowed down "Deeper Well" for the album version! ;-)
See ya. Dave
Thanks for the heads up. I love this album, I didn't know too they released black discs of it recently..
Thanks for the reminder of a fav from years ago. I'm listening to it right now with my coffee and waiting for my Quaker Oats to kick in.
I have a distant memory of seeing this on lp when it was released, but Discogs says no. I also remember when this was recorded at Daniel Lanois' Kingsway Studio in a rather gothic mansion on Esplanade Ave. (New Orleans.) Emmylou, Lanois, drummer Brian Blade (and probably bass player Tony Hall) played a surprise early evening set at nearby Cafe Brasil during the sessions. And even though I was almost always around there in the evenings, I didn't find out until after the fact (pre cell phone era error;) I'm sure it was a wonderful show. Blade has moved on from New Orleans to become one of the heaviest jazz drummers in the world (Wayne Shorter Quartet, etc.,) but I he will be back in town Sunday and I am planning to catch up with him at Snug Harbor jazz club.
I got a copy from Acoustic Sounds, on a blowout sale for $7.99. It was dumb luck. I ran across it while looking for the vinyl issue of another Emmylou Harris title (Cowgirl's Prayer, which is also on the same label and also good, but not as good as this). Wrecking Ball has long been a favorite of mine, both for the music and the incredible sound. The vinyl issue is extremely rare and highly sought after, as you can see from the Popsike link below. I'm surprised that it took as long as it did for a vinyl reissue to come out.

Thanks for mentioning this, wasn't aware it was available. Love it on CD, got to be great on vinyl. Just ordered it.

Man, that's been on the little slip of paper in my wallet forever. I had reached the point where I figured it'll never happen for me or it was maybe never released on vinyl.
My hopes have been renewed.
See ya. Dave
