Kyle....VPI started with a sprung cement platform upon which one is to place his/her Denon on. I had one...improved the Direct Drive Denon (don't remember which model, but it was a big expensive one (at the time)). They also made a VPI Brick - a very heavy square of metal encased in wood which when placed atop one's amp, cleared the sound. Worked.

Then there was/is the HW-1, a center weight of stainless steel shaped like a hockey puck with serrations around the circumference and a thinly rubberized base. By its number designation might this have been the first product?

I have three of the bricks.
One day, I will sell them or maybe when I die, someone will throw them into the dumpster.

Since they are pretty unique. Only the 'Shakti stone' is comparable. And that retails new for $199.
I think that inside the wood case, in the Brick, there is a ferrous object. The rationale is to place them on top of EI type transformers in order to absorb EMI radiation. At least it makes some sense in the world of physics, unlike some of the other mumbo jumbo that came along later. If nothing else, the weight can help to dampen transformer vibrations.
I've got one brick that I use on the transformer of my preamplifier. Does it make a difference? Well, it makes a difference to my peace of mind.
I read in one of my father's old MSEE texts from the 1950's that ferrous material placed in proximity to a transformer increases coupling between the transformer windings-- nothing to do with EMI. IIRC somebody sawed open a VPI brick and found old transformer laminations inside.
