Doesn't it sound better?
Or will your arm not cope with the extra weight?

No, nothing like that, but a long story though...
I had an LP in 2007, and when I got a new TT and arm, 2012, it really sounded great. I have a an issue with a bit of treble "peakiness" that really drives me nuts. It takes some dialing in effort, and I had it nailed and I was in heaven. Then disaster.....so I had to go buy a new cartridge opting for the LP-S instead of an LP. Knowing that it was a gamble and that I'd have to re-dial in my system (lots of work!). It's been a real test for my wits. They are totally different sounding cart's. But I missed/wanted/needed some of the old LP warmth for my older jazz/rock and I went searching for an "LP". A local Dlr. had an ad for an LP so I went and looked at it. They told me it was an LP but since it was attached to its container moorings I couldn't see the top, only the stylus portion. When I got it home I knew soon as I lifted it out that it was an LP-S not an LP. This was verified by Musical Surr. and it was only a year behind my LP-S. I hooked it up and played it and it seemed to have a slightly warmer tonal character so I decide to keep it. Then by chance I found a local audio lover selling a new LP he'd bought in Switzerland. I bought it and now have an extra LP-S I need to sell at some point.
It sounds like I made the right choice opting for a 3rd re-tip on my LP rather than trading up to an LP-S!! :-))
This time I sent it to North West Analogue in the UK (the previous 2 re-tips were sent back to the factory) and, although it's taken much longer than they promised, they are also giving me new coils wound with some new wire that Dominic has just found. So hopefully it will sound better, as well as having a new stylus.
BTW, what loading to you use. As you know, the Benz LP spec-sheet said 470-47K ... I have found 3K3 to sound the best - as has a mate who also has an LP.

Andyr,
Are you in the US or UK? You were able to send it back to Benz for a re-tip? I've been told (for a long time now) Benz no longer do that, at least from the US. The guy I bought my new LP from said that in the EU Benz still markets the LP and that it out sells the LP-S big time. Funny, in the US it's almost near impossible to get one and you have to be trading in a LP or LP-S to get one. Things that make you go Hmmmmm.
Next time I'm in the EU I'll have to see what's available?
Are you happy with the new rebuild? The guy that sold me my LP has sent a few cart's to van den Hul and has been very happy with the results.
I am in Oz, R.
Yeah, it was several years ago that I last sent the LP to the factory for a re-tip ... the reason I sent it to NWA this time was because I had also heard they don't do re-tips any more.
Can't tell you whether I'm happy with the rebuild ... it hasn't arrived back, yet.
Andy
