The numbers also do not include purchases of used vinyl. I don't think anyone reading that article would interpret it as telling the entire story. It's just an attention grabber kind of blurb.
Still, it does reveal hints. It does compare actual purchases of products -- downloaded music vs vinyl purchases. It would have been more useful if it had also reported CD purchases.
Much harder to compare streaming/subscription services to product purchases. That's kind of like comparing DVD sales to Netflix subscriptions. Does not compute.
Sure, to those of us who are already playing LPs, it's just an aimless kind of article with little real meaning. But it does accomplish one thing. It keeps up the subtle nudges to the public at large that vinyl is a legitimate alternative to digital. Little articles like this may draw more people, slowly, to the world of analog.
Or not. Whatever.

In terms of revenue, it is quite easy to do looking at RIAA stats .
Streaming is now the largest single component and I suspect that trend will continue to increase once 2016 data is available.
It's a good thing.....
