I'm using a second generation Athena, without the spring suspension. I also have first generation Athena in semi-retirement that I intend to put into a custom plinth.
Between the two, I've had only Maplenolls for 18 years. After a few minor tweaks, these things are solid as a rock.

thanks, I did the wand and headshell. The clamp on the air spindle was part of the table when i brought it. This is on my apollo. I also have an Ariadne that i owned before i found the apollo. I agree, once set up this tables are rock steady. I did not realize the athena was a suspended table. Must be some good springs with the heavy platter.

That is one amazing piece of kit!
The first generation Athena is the one with the suspension springs. It made it much more difficult to level, without any sonic gain that I can detect. Yes, the springs are pretty heavy duty, with a goofy tension adjustment. When I built the plinth for it, all of that will get tossed.
I have the headshell off until my new cartridge gets here, hopefully tomorrow. I've been going digital now for a week! I found a link to an old post with a pic, though.
Sweet table.Keep us informed as you change the plinth. I like the unsuspended maplenolls as once they are level, they stay that way. Good luck and nice start with the headshell.
