Fresh in from Canada, I have Thorens pics...
A Thorens TD521 S Acrylic. (circa late 1980's)
The brass platter, I'm told, came with the "S" option when ordering one of these through your dealer. 22 lbs for the platter alone. Along with the heavy platter, the turntable was supplied with a different, stronger bearing and heavier suspension springs.
The acrylic TD520/521 models, as with the Thorens Phantasie, were initially sold as promotion tools to dealers at a higher price.
The TD520 and 521 models are based on the TD320/321 design, but with a stretched chassis to handle 12 inch tonearms. This example has a 9 inch SME 3009 S3. Cartridge is the Shure Ultra 500.
I'm also told that a total of 17 acrylic TD520/521 models were sold. The TT owner also owns another Thorens, a TD147 Jubilee (1983 model with special trim). He's got that one tricked out with one of those RDC platters made by Clearlight Audio in Germany.

I especially like the way they adapted the black panel into the plinth. Beautiful.
I love my TD321 and have never felt the need to change it out. It just does everything I ask of it sonically and mechanically.

It would be a shame if it didn't sound as good or better than it looks.

I, too, had never seen this one before. I like it, although I'm not usually a fan of acrylic.
Beautiful! The fact that they made only 17 explains why I have never seen nor heard of this table. I would not be surprised if it sounded as good as it looks!
