There are persons who can make that look like new, for a price. Depending upon that price, it might be worth doing if it would enhance market value by at least a like amount, which I think is plausible. The platter edge is polish-able aluminum. If you have a buffer wheel, you can do that much yourself. Or go buy some Simi-chrome and do it by hand; big scratches such as I think I see on your platter will probably not come out with Simi-chrome and handwork, however. (My other hobby is auto restoration, so I know.)

Thanks Lew, any idea if it could be done without stripping the table down. Maybe an auto panel beater would look at it. If not then I will sell it as it stands when the time comes.

The sp10 was built to be serviceable, it takes a few screws to strip it down, but it is not tricky to put it back together. Many people have them finished with automotive paint

Further to what Penguin wrote, you can achieve some unique effects, if you engage an experienced auto painter for the chassis itself. I would not suggest painting the platter, however. Polish is the way to go. I have seen some chassis' done in gloss or semi-gloss black, and it's way cool. But like Penguin also says, you will have to strip it down yourself, down to only the paint-able escutcheon (the square surface that surrounds the platter). Remove switches etc.
the platter can be polished with high quality aluminum polish like simichrome or mothers fairly fast. The chassis has a protective coating over the alu that should be stripped before refinishing. otherwise the surface quality will suffer. If you want clear aluminum finish you have to regenerate the brushed surface. That can be tricky with home tools. You could probably get the top evenly surfaced with 240 to 400 grit paper on a surface plate and a guide. The sides will be very difficult to get even and similar to the top. I would look for someone who is equipped to do that job. If you want an even brushed finish you should practice first on some scrap aluminum about the same size. You can buy 12"x12"x1" pieces of mic 6 cast alu plates for under $150, and re sell it for the same on eBay, you only loose the cost of shipping it and the eBay ransom.
