I have no direct experience with either cartridge, although I've owned a number of other Denon cartridges and I also owned the original BPS cartridge. The original BPS was pretty bad and I got rid of it after a very long three months of suffering with it. On the other hand, I have enjoyed all my Denon cartridges immensely.
Anyway, my recommendation would be to try the Denon DL-110 because of all the good things I've read about it here in the Asylum as well as because of its very reasonable price. 2juki sells it for $175 with free shipping on eBay. I don't think you can go wrong with Denon.

you can get the denon 103 for around $200. I known it will need a step up and maybe impedence matching but I would think you should consider it/ Or get a damaged version of a high end cart and get it retipped for $150 by souundsmith (basic retip)
its too bad the new 103s aren't available with elliptical or fineline stylus shapes. i avoided the 103s because of the shibata shape which at the time had a high end peak typical of other carts with shibatas of the day. this is when the cd4 system was on the market.
i hesitate to say it was a trend because it was only one segment of the quad trend. there were a couple of other areas where this sonic errata reared its head. the Heil AMT for one and early threshold (non stasis) amps the other. god forbid that those factors all showed up in the same system.
anyway, a 103D was what i preferred and later heard there was the 103m that wasn't conical nor shibata. i waited around too long and then they were all gone and CDs came on the scene. it's all in the timeing sometimes.

I have a line on a good used Grace F9E. Would the Soundsmith basic retip enable "like new" performance again?
Opus 33 1/3
A good used F9E + a basic retip means that I'm already stretching the limits of my budget. The Ruby option does sound nice though.
BTW, I'm already own a DL-110. Hard to beat for the money.
Well, the choice is between the Sumiko Blue Point 2 and the Denon DL-110. Neither of those would be my choice, but I think genungo is looking for a high-output moving coil.
