I was always fond, from the first day I heard it playing in a store, of the 10,000 Maniacs "In My Tribe" However, the first releases featured a version of Cat Stevens' Peace Train (which I have on my CD), which was excised in later releases due to Stevens, or Yusuf Islam as he later renamed himself, support for the fatwa announced against author Salman Rushdie for what was seen as blasphemy, e.g., The Satanic Verses. Anyway, this is how I understand it, and I see that "Peace Train" did not make it to this reissue. I believe that Islam has renounced his original position, and "Peace Train" is a great song. Too bad it is not on the reissue.
Follow Ups:
My copy is a Japan Promo and has 'Peace Train'. I need to play this tonight.
I've got the original LP In My Tribe (1987) which include Peace Train.
Also have the UK Island Pressing (1971) of Cat Stevens Teaser & the Firecat ... really sounds good.
Power is always dangerous. It attracts the worst and corrupts the best ... Ragnar Lothbrok
Yes, missing. I have a promo copy of the original release from 1987, with two stickers on the front. One proclaims "Pressed on High Quality Audiophile Vinyl," which I assume means Quiex; the other "Featuring Peace Train." The song is the first on Side 2.
