It's filthy and missing a couple parts (the counterweight is there though, I had it in my bag) namely the mat and one of the four feet. The arm pivots are completely loose (at least the top one) but all the bits are there - bit of a scraping noise when spinning the platter by hand, probably just dirt underneath. Also no dustcover (oh well).
But I couldn't leave it behind for that price. I just couldn't.

...I am glad that it works. A while back, I took a chance on an SL-B2 for $15US in a backwoods thrift; it turned out to be an excellent buy. Sometimes one gets lucky!

Cheers!
at some point though (when we were arranging to meet) he said 'I have two - I think they're the same model but I'll take both so you can pick one. Same price.'
The D3 was actually slightly more expensive *and* missing a counterweight, which I had a spare of. It was in good shape but filthy beyond belief (the 1200 is even worse though - it looks as if they'd used it to plow a field!) And it was already a good deal at that price.
But then the guy pulled the tarp from over the other turntable.. good thing I'm good at keeping my cool, or at least my poker face. I checked it out and when I saw the loose arm I told him it was broken (well, it was!) and that overall it just didn't look great (it didn't). Then I made him a lower offer and he accepted.. and that's how I ended up with an SL-1200 for 25 euro O.o
Today I started taking it apart - I plan on cleaning every tiny little part. I've already done a couple - gave the platter a nice deep wash and other parts which looked like they might hold water inside if they got wet just got a deep, thorough cleaning with brushes of various sizes. I'm noting where each screw was removed from so I can put it back together.
You can see that it's had a rough life after cleaning it, but it's not a complete wreck. I think it'll turn out OK.
And despite its terrible appearance speed is still steady as a rock. Some little issues but nothing major - little crackles when handling the arm and etc., but both channels play and it tracks a record all the way through (I adjusted the loose arm pillar very quickly to where it wouldn't rattle - once the turntable is properly clean, I will take the time to adjust the pivots carefully for max sensibility/least play).
VTA and antiskating work.
Result.
I bought this drek on Ebay for 50 bucks. Tonearm was trashed, speed was off and the finish was terrible.
A little TLC and a few new parts and my Frankentable is spinning again.
If the motor spins, you got a bargain.
