I am looking for a suitable replacement styli for my Signet TK7e. The choices I have found are as follows.
http://www.lpgear.com/product/TKN22.html
http://www.lpgear.com/product/TK7Ea.html
Which is better, and why?

SM: That's an easy one - the former, as the latter wouldn't fit anyway.
In other words: The Signet TK carts with "a" suffix are a newer, different model family, compatible to the wider AT100/AT102P family (with models like the AT120E(a/b) et cetera). Whereas the older TKs without "a" suffix are based on the older AT MM family AT10 to AT15/20 (of which at least some of the needles can also be used on the Signet TK bodies, afaik). Exception: The TK9/10 (both without and with "a" suffix), as these top-class MMs are based on the AT22/23/24/25 instead.
Independent of body compatibility, the original TKN22 would also appear technically superior to LPGear's 3rd party VividLine replacement needle for the TKN7Ea, though.

OK, then the original is best.

How about this one. It physically looks the same as mine.http://www.lpgear.com/product/ATN15Sa.html
Sorry. Closer inspection indicates a wider cartridge profile.

Any other compatible styli that could improve upon the performance of the original?
That's already pretty difficult, as most of the really good AT needles for the AT10 to AT15/20 family have become pretty rare and expensive during the last couple of years. But I think LPGear should at least still offer the ATS12S.

Thanks for your help everyone.
Or should I put the stylus money into a new Grado Platinum V2 Reference, in order to satisfy my desire for a more musical and forgiving cartridge?
Why don't you buy them both and find out for yourself which is better. It's not like they are very expensive. My cheapest cartridge cost more than twice as much as both of them combined.
Good luck,
John Elison
Bad idea, John, as the second option wouldn't fit anyway...

Well, that's the best reason of all not to buy one of them. ;-)
