Cut a thin, small square of ME and place it on your platter.
Using the tonearm cue to lower the stylus into the ME and lift it out.
Repeat several times.

Definitely do not rub with the magic eraser. That's a sure fire way to snag the cantilever.

What it appears to do is drive the gunk up onto the stylus. I sent my Soundsmith Zephyr to Peter Ledermann for "evaluation" and he found a lot of it "welded" to the diamond where it attaches to the cantilever. Surprised the heck out of me as I had been using the Magic Eraser in exactly this way and recommended it for a long time. It may work in conjunction with other stylus-cleaning methods but I'm no longer a fan.
Fwiw, Peter recommends building a mound out of Fun-tak/Blu-Tack and dipping the stylus repeatedly into that, while also cleaning the stylus (back to front, of course) with a small brush that's relatively stiff.
..., before I drop the needle onto a record. A blast of air also works to remove any Magic Eraser powder residue.
