Our renovation is almost finished and it is tme to install record cabinets !
2 Kallax 4x4
2 Kallax 1x4 installed horizontally on top of the larger units
Dowels and shelf edges glued.
I will install 1/4 in plywood backing and anchor to wall studs tomorrow.
Home made 5x4 with a total of 40 storage squares for a capacity if 2400-2800 records- depending on how tightly they are packed. Why 5x4? Not enough width for a pr of 5x5.
Room is 12x32 ft and will be roughly divided with computer and office setup at one end, listening space and equipment at the other. I expect to listen in the relative near field, abt 6-7ft from speakers.
More pics as the room fills.
Thanks, Ross

I viewed this post from another computer and realized that the picture was flipped 180'.
Floating in free space indeed !
Sorry about that, but you get the idea.
Best,

The specifications for these shelves is no more than 29 lbs per shelf. Each shelf is about 13" wide, and therefore can hold about 78 records. At 0.6 lbs per record (including sleeves), this is ~47 lbs, well over the specified limit.
When faced with this problem with another shelf manufacturer, a screwed 3/4" plywood to the back of the shelves, making sure that a couple screws went into the shelf under each cube. This is very stable and has held together for 15 years now, including being moved around a couple times. You might want to consider doing this!
All the best,

The pic was "correct" when I saw it on my Ipad yesterday or day before and thus didn't understand the jokes others were making. Wierd...

There are multiple ways to store the data in a jpeg and for some reason, Apple decided to store it upside down.EDIT: I did more research and it's because Apple saves the picture using the real orientation of the iphone/ipad, then relies on EXIF tags in the picture to indicate how it should be rotated for viewing.

It must be like playing records in outer space. Better have dynamic tracking force on that tonearm.
