touraj sez that his use of the acrylic plinths on his vertere's is for greater consistency(ie-sameness) of results regardless of the support.
I suspect that sales to Singapore and Dubai blingmeisters may have had some influence as well.
anyway....I found it most curious as he went from a corian-like composite on TMS2 back to Medite (mdf)as the primary upgrade for TMS3.That said, his "serious" tables(ie:Xerxes,TMS,Vertere) aren't really representative of the "big plastic" class of tables to which I was referring as they utilise fairly low mass 2 piece aluminum platters with lightweight, low-noise main bearing designs.

I wasn't aware that he went back to MDF.
I'd reckon it would have a very different *ringing* points to Acrylic plinth.
I must admit that I have not heard a good execution of Acrylic plinth but I haven't really been actively looking since living with Sondeks. ( This is probably the table I go to grave with )
hi kuma,
the closest I've heard to date has been willi bauer's dps and even that table still carries a tiny whiff of acrylic's annoying aloof character.way back when I was investigating and experimenting different materials for my platforms, i'd spent many months using a variety of acrylic formulations for the interesting positive qualities they possessed. Eventualy, after the "uniqueness" wore off I found that i'd begun to get hypersensitive to the annoying aspects. after a time, i'd gotten so irritated by them that i'd become almost physically nauseous every time i'd hear a system with any kind of acrylic in the chain, tables, racks, component cases, whatever.
Thankfully, that's subsided with time but I still cringe when I see the stuff..
btw- notice the vertere sg-1 arm and "on-it's-last-legs" 47 miyabi?. have you heard a fuuga yet?dying to know.

I could be wrong but I'd reckon it would be even worse with Ayer PSU.
No I have not heard the Fuuga. Yoshi promised to send me one for a demo but Fuuga is handled by Audio Arts in NYC so who knows.
I still have the low hour M47 in the box ( altho at this point suspension is probably gone by now: I stopped using it as soon as I was told Takeda is no more )
I still miss that cartridge.
I was just thinking about your Shiraz.
btw, the one with the SG1 looks to be like a Miyabi Standard or Miyajima Lab.

get that outta yer head, right now.
That cartridge prolly qualified as the most exhuberant transducer since the Linn Karma- maybe moreso- all boldness and bluster. It was extraordinary fun but waaay too over-the-top to live with over the long haul.
#!!**!WOOOoooo-HOOOOooooooo....!!?*#%!!!!
precisely....I am missing that over saturated spectacular Technicolor altho Miyabi47 had more beguiling quality.
So that's what Linn Karma sounds like eh? I have never heard it but have a busted one that I could send it to Expert Stylus. ( afraid it's gonna come back as a VDH! )
The TMS has a lot more eye appeal to me than the new [insert Beatle reference here] I'm Looking Through You model.
But, beauty is in..., as the saying goes.
