Hi all -
Does anyone have any thoughts to share regarding the sound of the Pro-ject Xtension 9 and either the Rega RP6 -or- RP8? I'm purchasing a new TT and these are the 'finalists'.
Luckily I have dealers for both nearby, so I'll have the opportunity to bring all home for a listen prior to purchasing, but I'm interested in others opinions.
Thanks
Craig

I have an Xtension 10 with Blackbird cartridge, and have heard the entire Rega RP1 through RP10 line. I heard the RP8 and RP10 with both the Exact cartridge and some other more expensive cartridge that wasn't the Apheta. But unfortunately I have not heard them in the same setup, and the time between listening was a few months.
My fuzzy memory makes me want to say the Xtension I have is similar in quality to what I heard with the RP8 and an Exact cartridge, and definitely better than the RP6. Possibly also similar to the RP10 and Exact cartridge.
Can't speak for the Project but I have a Rega RP 6 and I love it. I use the exact 2 cartridge. I'm a set and forget guy and this table makes it easy. No desire to change VTA or azimuth. As I posted here long ago, I sold my much more expensive Raven One and never regretted it. To my 67 year old ears, there was very little difference in the sound. (BTW, had my hearing checked recently and it's excellent.)
If you can audition both tables in your system, you don't need any ones opinion.
Lettuce all no what u think.

Craig: I live in your area, Northern KY. I have heard the RP-6 with an exact (I believe) at Audible and loved it. I have heard the Project tables at Hanson and liked them too. The flavors are pretty different and easy to discern. Rega is snappy. Project is fuller. I have bought from both dealers and both are good. I have heard the RP8 only a few times so can't really say but probably more like the 6 than the Project. If you get an 8, I would love to come and hear it.

Hi Tom -
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I am a customer of both Audible Elegance (bought entire Ayre system) as well as Hanson (recently bought B&W PM1s there). So my table is likely to come from one of those shops.
Hearing the RP3 with the Totem Rainmakers at AE was a pretty involving experience - especially given the value of the components. It's been on my mind for a few weeks now. I spoke with Roger earlier today and he thought they might have an RP8 in about 3 weeks. I'm looking forward to hearing it. I'll be able to determine if it's worth the extra $ over the RP6 to me.
I've heard the Xtension 9 with Blue Point Special at Hanson - have not yet heard it in my system. What intrigues me is that I can use the Pro-ject with XLR (my phono pre has XLR inputs and outputs). Thats not a decisino 'driver', but it's a nice option since everything else is already balanced and in plave.
If I do get an RP8 I'd be happy to have you over for a listen.
Again, thanks for your input.
Craig
I would be happy to listen to the Project too. If you had any interest in hearing a very eclectic system driven by a VPI TNT6HR, Einstein monoblocks and Devore speakers, you would be welcome.

Tom -
I would love to hear your system. Looks like I can't e-mail you (your AA account states that you do not accept unsolicited e-mail), would you be able to contact me via the asylum?
Thanks
Craig
