In Reply to: RE: Vacuum tubed electronics is applicable to more than just phono preamps... posted by EdAInWestOC on August 17, 2015 at 04:53:20
The more important question related to vacuum tubes is the source of the vacuum. Standard vacuum is pretty much available anywhere. But audiophile vacuum is very limited, especially cryo-treated audiophile vacuum. Those special vacuum mines are almost all located in northern Idaho and present all kinds of challenges. First, converting the raw vacuum to refined vacuum is a costly procedure. Then, liquification and storage of the vacuum takes special components, specialized railroad tankers.
And just mining the vacuum is problematic. From time to time, a new seam of vacuum is accidentialy exposed causing massive mine implosions.
We need to move forward carefully and continue to recycle used vacuum.

NOS recycled vacuum works well, but must be properly filtered of contaminants before re-use. There a a lot of options, but the best are cryo-treated vacuum cleaners that user oxygen-free copper motor windings.
NOS vacuum must be certified. There's too much fraud due to reclaimed vacuum from vacuum spills. Fraudsters are trying to pass off reclaimed vacuum as NOS.
