Peter Gabriel's first four solo records are getting deluxe vinyl reissues. As usual, there is no specific info about whether analog or digital masters were used but they seem to be nice efforts.
I've emailed the publicist to see if they can dig anything up about analog vs. digital, but I've yet to meet a publicist who even understands the question much less manages to find an answer.
They're a little pricey, but I'm curious.

If you like 45's the Classic 45 reissues were cut from the original 1/2" 30 ips analog master tapes on an all tube stereo cutting system by Bernie Grundman. May be harder to find now and i don't know prices now but they are my best sounding Gabriel's.
See link below from Analog Planet.
They should ALL GET BEHIND 45 RPM VINYL AS THE AUDIOPHILE FORMAT OF CHOICE.

I find flipping every 10 minutes annoying. My audiophile creds could be at risk but there it is,I want to listen to Gabriel not flip. I have stopped buying these 45 reissues where possible.
Difficult to turn down Gabriel but I have 3 LP's and they sound great in 33. New & young audience has even less patience & the labels always cater to the mass market even when we are wrong.
The customer is then charged what he is likely to stand. ...
Admittedly, I'm too lazy, and cheap, to be going for these 45rpm editions. If I have to get up more often, I may not bother playing the whole thing anyway.

The marginal value added of the 45 is outweighed for me by the need to flip the records every ten minutes. I want to settle back for a bit and sink into the music.Exceptions for me are Cowboy Junkies Trinity Sessions and A Charlie Brown Christmas . Owing (I think) to the spartan nature of those records, the extended grooves make a difference in detail to these ears.

I have one 45 LP ...never again. The little sonic value added is far outweighed (for me ) by being a PITA.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
And I don't know that it's idiots so much as by the time they get to the top they are exhausted. The collective "they" have put up with every imaginable type of asshole, become every type of asshole you can imagine and are just counting the days they can shitcan the whole thing and retire to the proverbial island where they can continue being assholes until they die.So yeah, they act in idiotic ways but not because they are stupid.. They just can't be bothered.

They seem to be unavailable.
Do you really think I wasn't' going to buy them IMMEDIATELY?? lol
And IMO telling. I often see the use of original master tapes touted loud and clear. My marketing brain sees the lack of this information as an obvious indication that they were mastered digitally.
But how else are they supposed to do half speed remasters? They aren't that bad at $135 for all four. Considering the average price for a sealed original is going to be AT LEAST if not more than $50 each if you can even find one.
The only thing that really matters is how they sound. If they sound great I don't care if they were done on an abacus or cut from a CD.
I don't own any PG on vinyl, so I pre ordered these and if you switch to British Sterling and use PayPal it comes out to $93.51 free shipping to the US. I had to do it. Gary
THANK YOU!
IF you don't insist on buying the sealed pig in a poke, it's possible to get extremely good original copies for less than $35 each - I know, because I got a couple for a friend as a gift last year, under $20 each.
I do understand that for some folks, this will be the only way to get that kind of quality (in theory), but geez, record companies - I at least hope they make it all-analog and good-quality vinyl.
Well I can understand the sticker shock it is about 10 bucks more a record. Keep in mind I'm one of those "by the pound" thrift store guys so I'm as cheap as the next guy.
But since I got my first half speed 45rpm (little hatch) I can appreciate how good those things sound. And it's really only 34 bucks per record which considering the short run isn't completely crazy.
There are certain artists like Gabriel, U2 and Yazoo that I'm a big fan of and will spend a little more to get pristine quiet vinyl. Floyd as well.
Fucking shit god dammit motherfucker
In case anyone wants these, I switched to pounds paid through paypal and it worked as advertised. Thanks again.
" By the pound" now you are talking when I go out searching if it averages out to more then 3 bucks an LP I feel cheated. Now I buy music I love and its always old copies, I just sit and wait have been doing it for years this artist I would pass by anyhow not for me if I am missing something fine let someone else enjoy it. No disrespect am sure my collection is not interesting to a lot of people but I sure enjoy it, that is all that matters what you listen to has to be something that knocks your socks off or its not worth a dime. Just my 10 cents worth.
I agree. If it's something I want on vinyl just because that's the format I prefer, I'm happy with a well-done reissue cut from digital masters. Noisy pressings are the bigger issue for me. I've stopped buying anything from Merge Records, for example, even though it has one of my favorite rosters. Just got burned one too many times.
