I understand the nomad has an riaa converter so you don't need a phono preamp, amd the speakers are powered so you don't need an amp, but don't you still need a pre or a passive?
Follow Ups:
The A5 speakers have a volume control on the powered speaker. The volume control on the Nomad doesn't control the line out.

That's pretty lame.
Makes using powered speakers attached to the line out a real pain to use unless they are sitting at arms length.
That said, if I had one as an office system I'd mostly use cans.
the powered speakers come with a remote

They do? I bought mine used and there was no remote. I pulled up the owners manual and it makes no mention of a remote. I'll have to contact them.

Just did a quick listen with the Nomad connected via the headphone output. Works fine. Can't yet speak to how it compares to the line out.

Ah 5 v 5+ same speaker though and they do sound good I've heard them.

I could if I connected through the headphone output of the Nomad. I'll have to try that and listen for any compromise in the sound.

Guys the A5's have a remote for volume and other things too.

The volume control!
Long time no see on these pages. How goes it?
Ingenious. Hanging in. Thanks for asking.
not needed for line level sources. You would normally need a phono preamp with a self powered speaker, but the VPI Nomad provides that. Pretty neat combination.
