My RP6 and SP-17 don't always get along.
It's a real PITA.
Any suggestions? I'm almost ready to sell that Rega.

Many years ago I had a Thorens TD160BC, I fitted a rega RB300 tonearm and I had problems with hum just as you describe, I go rid of the hum by adding a plastic washer on the mounting pillar before the nut so it was completely coupled from any metal part of the turntable, I don't know anything about the Rega RP6 so this could be completely irrelevant.

Mike.
1. My guess is your cartridge (not sure what you have) is not playing nice with the grounding Rega uses (not separate from the signal path). You have options - a cart that works better with a Rega stock wiring (look in the archives here and talk to a good Rega dealer) or rewiring the Rega with a cable that provides a separate ground (the Incognito cable does this).2. Ignore people who trash a well respected turntable with nasty unsupported comments. As you probably already know, they always have some agenda they are advancing at the expense of the civility of this forum, the named manufacturer and most importantly the nasty poster's credibility on this forum.

Sure, mine was a lowly LS-3.
One SIMPLE thing that took it from noisy and annoying to dead silent & luscious (AND dynamic)? Used a "cheater plug" so the preamp itself wasn't grounded. Hallelujah!!!
Sell it. Not worth keeping, not that good anyway.
By "don't get along" could you be a bit more specific? What cartridge in the RP6?

Still in denial, eh?
Opus 33 1/3
could do with a bit more info here, like what are the symptoms.
Just read Opus' posts. Poor guy has real problems facing reality. He first needs to admit his problems before he can get help.
