All dialed in now. Not bad for $50 bucks.

Hmmm, maybe you'll experience the same situation I found myself in. Sent the Shelter 501 to Soundsmith and bought an Ortofon 2M Red as a cheap substitute while waiting. Loved the 2M Red so much, never put the Shelter back on and am going to sell it. I'm amazed that the inexpensive 2M Red can be as good as it is. And when it comes time to replace it, I can simply buy a new needle assembly of either red or blue for the price of a nice lunch.
Gone are my days of cartridge anxiety and now just groov'n with the music.
IMO, your ears get used to hearing what you're stuck with, and you hone in on the good.
The humble OM5 , still manages to produce that indescribable "comfort" that only a record is capable of.
Even a neighbor who could care less about audio, mentioned he preferred it to the CD we compared. The CD was spot on with detail and such, but was "missing."
I'm giving myself one last chance with wallet busting( at least for me) carts since my ears have been spoiled.
