Now the trick is getting at least some of my vinyl collection shipped to Hong Kong as affordably as possible.I had the Audio Note TT2/Arm3/IQ3 back in Canada but had to sell due to the frequency difference in HK. After several months of checking out turntables - well I'm boring - back to the Audio Note TT2/Arm1 version 2 / IQ1. I loved it when I first bought it and that hasn't changed. And the dealer had an older one on static so I snapped it up. The new tonearm is a lot better I must say. Seems dead easy to use although their old suped up Rega 250 arms were easy but less solid.
My trusty 20 year old Radio Shack Phono Stage (The Little Rat) that runs on a 9V battery - works as good as ever. Really quiet. Awaiting an upgrade but man this was a good buy for a whole $40. Wish they still made them.

Wow DES you were not kidding about the prices. I would highly recommend that you look for stuff on the internet and just have it shipped. Some items were double the price of the exact same thing that could be found at CD Warehouse (top floor of Langham Place). $200US for Diana Krall? I was looking for the signed edition or something.
The 13th floor I recommended is very small and doesn't have much of a classical or jazz selection but $200HKD for 4 so since it's in the same building as the 7th floor one it's worth a quick look.
Yes although he has stuff I've never seen elsewhere --plus he does NOT negotiate
Well not for me anyway--I was thinking of getting my Cathay friends to teach me some
flattering Cantonese verse so I can coerce him for discount
Ha-fat chance!!
I'll be in HKG later this year will look for the places you mentioned and maybe catch up for
a goss if you're around

Send me a message when you're out this way.
A bunch of vinyls showed up via Fed Ex today so it's Christmas in July. Very quiet are the new vinyls in terms of any noise so that's pleasing. The basic arm and cart from AN has impressed me I must say. Consistent throughout all tracks. The weak spot is likely the Radio Shack Phono Stage so I will be anxious to get the better phono stage.
I'm to about 20 LPs now in a week - - so it begins :-)
I like the collectable factor - picked up Wes Montgomery "In the Beginning" boxed set - only 1500 printed. I'm almost afraid to take it out of the packaging.
Good one--the Drug is taking effect--ha!
Yes your Phono upgrade priority I'd say--you are Mr AN--why not stay on the horse?
Good Listening

Thanks Des - I met a couple of guys here who are in some sort of vinyl club as well as crate diggers or some such thing. Got their e-mails and will contact them. They also mentioned the 13th floor of the Sino building in Mongkok for the affordable $50HKD variety.
I recently did a preamp shootout of Melody's top preamp, A Rogue Audio preamp and Line Magnetic preamp and score the three in that order. The Melody preamp was big on tone and layering with much improved bass. I was pleased that my LM 219IA served as an excellent chameleon as all three preamps made rather dramatic changes to the sound - quite surprising.
Still the Audio Note M3 Phono is the leader because it has an actual tube phono stage, more features, and the best resale value - and an obvious synergy with the the TT2 and AN E speakers and AN cables that I have. But it's expensive for me. But I do get my 2 year contract bonus next month and we'll see how I do playing poker in Las Vegas at the end of July.
The more important thing is the music - the prices in HK are steep - I have ordered some LPs online that even with shipping comes well under what is being charged here. Granted so far I have been to HMV and IFC which are huge rent so I can't blame them. HMV is taking up nearly half the top floor for vinyl next month - they apparently have bought up 10,000 second hand LPs so we'll see what the prices are like.
Sounds good you are well on the Vinyl highway!
Hmm the HMV buy sounds interesting--good luck there--I'd certainly stick with the AN Phono
if you can with your obvious rapport there gotta be a bonus
Melody ?still going--I believe they started in Oz then fell over--Rogue --Ok stuff
LM--not really my cuppa
Ha!--Poker in Vegas --good luck there--I lived three years in LV never bet once--
I'm not the lucky type
You can only win 5 times at any one go--- the casinos have secret "stops" on too much $$$'
going to the Punters!
Good Luck though

I've had AN TT2 with a JA Michell Technoarm for the past ten years and I really love it! A super musical deck.
It's a pretty hard deck to fault - I love the pace and timing of it and it says much that AN's next model up is over $30,000.
They are working on a 3 motor quasi-voyd turntable which if it is priced in the land of reason might actually make things interesting.
Have you needed to make many adjustments over the years - I generally like set it and forget it kind of equipment.
I am not likely to rebuy my VPI 16.5 record cleaning machine - I did see Spin Clean at HMV for reasonable money - any thoughts?
I know Peter is like "just use your finger to wipe dirt off the cart" and doesn't seem to recommend using any cleaners.
I like it. How much does one of these typically cost?
TT2, $2062.
TT2 Deluxe, $3520
External P.S., $2400
Arm 3/Vx, $2024 (w/Vx cable)
IO1 MC cartridge, $4128
So I am not sure of the prices in regards to each part - table/arm/car/
The turntables come in one motor, two motor and deluxe versions of both ranging from $1500 to $4000 or something. The tone arm is $1000 to $2000 depending on the cabling you choose - the basic arm uses copper and the two more expensive arms use silver and better silver.
There are three carts (copper/silver and better stylus) as you go up the line. They seem to range from $600-$1200 ish
This is the Euro price list from 2012 (prices have gone up BUT this list included 21% VAT so it's all ballpark. The first page starts with carts then step ups, arms tables etc. Analog first - speakers last. Makes sense.
