I sent my Zu DL-103 to Peter some months ago. I'd snapped the cantilever in a fat-fingered moment of inattention. I chose the least expensive retip. What I got back was a much better cartridge. That midrange, as good as it was previously, was now more present without being forward and intrusive. The sound is cleaner and quieter. I suspect I could reduce the tracking force but I'm just going to leave it as is for now.

I had the compliance mod done on mine, so technically I can reduce the VTF to 1.8. I am running at ~2.5 and like it there.

Don't worry about avoiding temptation. As you grow older, it will avoid you.

It was the same but much better, if that makes any sense. It reminded me of what happened when I had my Spica TC-50s repaired. Beyond the cosmetic repairs the capacitors were changed to a different type. I was very wary of changing the basic sound of the TC-50. What I got was the same sound but audibly improved. The tone and presentation was unchanged and that was what I wanted. Same thing for Soundsmith DL-103 retip. Peter clearly knows what he's doing. That why he's also got my Dyna 20X HO. As much as I love the 103 the 20X is still my favorite of the two.

I just seek a modest improvement in top end extension and detail. Basically a DL-103D, if you know that cart.
