$11K seems just a bit extreme.

One can get perfectly decent Japanese pressings of this for sensible money. I got a sealed Japanese pressing in January.
I believe in time travel but wouldn't pay that much for it! A decent idler deck, vintage tonarm and cartridge will get you 90% of the way there...

"... only a very few individuals understand as yet that personal salvation is a contradiction in terms."
For the rich vinylphile who needed this LP in order to complete a very fine Blue Note collection, $10,000 is like a drop in the bucket.
However, my son was talking about a Chinese businessman who built his company headquarters in the shape of the Star Trek Enterprise.
After spending $11,191.63 on a record, do you frame it or play it? It's like spending thousands of dollars on a big diamond ring, but you don't dare wear it in public in order to avoid getting mugged. I would think that these ultra expensive things are only good for your kids at your estate sale or to pay for your future heart transplant.
......it's really no better, or worse, than buying vintage watches with tons of complications, or vintage Ferraris.
Some will never understand that provenance has a value to some people and many more will not be able to afford vintage luxury goods even if they do understand.

....Platinum Mono. Why do you think they sell $15K mono cartridges? Somebody must be using them for something!

A Japanese friend tells a great story about a well known American record auctioneer who took
his incredible success and teamed with a Japanese dealer to open a small, NICE shop in Tokyo many
moons ago. They had all the shite, including that Mobley on a wall display.
Asking 3 grand for it on opening day, they do the "sell" on it to a client.Deal done, guy leaves with his nice 1568, happy as a clam.
They wait a bit, reach under the counter and replace it with another copy.
Apparently they were able to do that a few times. This was about 25-30 years ago.
11k is nuts. Wonder where it went?

To date the most I've paid for 1 record is $200. The vast majority of the 5K records I own were purchased for under $5 each. Many for pennies.
I suppose, If I was a CEO or something like one, and had tons of cash, I would go after all the records on my "want" list, (of course that list would be gigantic) with little regard to price. But I can't see paying $11K.
Today, most of the time I walk in and out of record stores empty handed. This is due in part to many selling the high-end stuff online, but also because I already have everything. The stuff I am looking for is rare and thus expensive, but I am still relatively sane, so I have limits man.
