Was strolling through the Carole King section when I came across this little bit of someone's life.... Good thing it wasn't last song on side two....

At a local thrift, I found a privately recorded record of a high school graduation in Hawaii that included some beautiful choral songs in Hawaiian by the entire graduating class. A lady's name was on the record jacket, and my brother was also a member of that 1959 graduating class. While I wanted to keep the record for my brother( who had misplaced his record long ago), I thought that the lady may not have realized that the record had been donated.
Using the internet, I located the lady in an Alaskan village. Since she was a school district administrator, I was able to find her email and tell her about the record. She was very happy that I had found it, and she wasn't sure how it made it to a thrift store. She did want it back for the memories, so I sent it on its way.
I then searched eBay for the record, and I could not believe it when I found it. I am guessing that not more than 400 records of this graduation were pressed, and I was sure that I would never find another. Anyway, I had the eBay record framed along with a picture of my brother and I, and I gave it to him for Christmas a couple years before he passed.
This record was also significant, as one of the class members was Robin Luke of "Susie Darlin" fame. Robin wrote a special song that was included on the graduation record.
i found a sealed and signed copy of The Arrival of Victor Feldman 1958 Contemporary stereo. the shrink wrap was cut in a circle in the lower left corner with a note to Leslie regarding how much he like playing with her brother Scott.
It took awhile to realize its was given after scott la faro was killed in the car crash in 1963. it took me almost 2 year to contact the older sister and return the record. it was lost in s divorce. sometime things woke out well
Brad Davidson (former bass player with Wipers) wrote this letter promoting his new band Klaw. I love finding things like this with records.
used records and books and often find such notes. The most touching note I found was in a copy of Winnie the Pooh inscribed to a soldier's daughter who was obviously away and stationed in England. It sort of went: "Daddy can't be with you but hopes this book will remind you he misses you a lot...."
The book got turned in to our recycled book program, and unfortunately I could not find any other ID and I would have tried to return the book. I'm sure the grandchildren never ever saw the note. The book was stuffed into a box full of WWII memorabilia and since the books went to the end of the war, I am hopeful that that father survived.
On a more cheerful note, I purchased a first edition set of the Tolkien Lord of the Rings trilogy and found notes from the desk Of Tolkien. Owner even kept the original envelopes so I could date the letters. Unfortunately, although bearing Tolkien's letterhead, they were all type written....Still a nice bonus which took me months to discover as I didn't bother going through the books till long after I purchased them
