I love when the young whippersnappers get schooled by the real deal blues guys. Of course, Peter Green could hang with just about anybody. Earlier in the car I was groovin' to Blues, Blues, Blues by the Jimmy Rogers All Star Blues Band, which is a similar concept. Pair a bunch of mostly British blues rockers, including Eric Clapton, with a bunch of Chicago blues greats and see what happens. I think the Jimmy Rogers et al outing is somewhat more successful although both are quite good. Happy Memorial Day weekend to all!
The wife and I saw him last Saturday night in Memphis.
One of my favorite symphonies.

From a mutual Thorens guy. Love Tchaikovsky and the 6th but can't get int Karajan's interpretations. Give me Igor Markevitch with Tchaikovsky.
Sim
Thanks Sim, it is from VinylNirvana. I absolutely love it.
I have to find myself a Igor Markevitch version. I don't know him. Thanks.

The LSO/Markevitch Tchaikovsky 6 on Philips is phenomenally good. Keep looking till you find it.

The Markevitch/LSO Tchaikovsky 4th on Philips. It's far and away the best I heard. I cannot listen to it with out standing and cheering "Bravo!!! at the end. His interpretation of the final movement is amazing with so much energy and speed that I can see the orchestra members fingers flying on their instruments.

Head Hunters....
Today I'm using the TD150 (R7_2) to handle the 33-1/3rd rpm part of the task.

I'm a little fuzzy on when exactly Maiden Voyage was initially released. It should have been at about the time Blue Note was acquired by Liberty Records. My copy says: "Blue Note Records * A division of Liberty Records, Inc" right under the "33-1/3 STEREO Long Playing" in circular array at the label outer boundary.
Dead Wax:
side 1: B.A. BNST-84195-A
side 2: B.A. BNST-84195-Balas...no RVG
it is what it is. I suspect it is from the period just after the sale.

so it would have been a New York USA label, then re-issued on Liberty label. I used to pass on Liberty labels (not any more) as the prices rise to the sky on the others, often it is the only sensible thing left. Will I ever get a copy of Cool Struttin' that is better than the NM- Liberty I currently own? Unlikely.
While the majority of my BN records are NY USA or earlier, I recently came into a large collection of later issues, up to the Dark Blue label with the black "B" on it (1973-78). I am listening to these to see what's worth keeping (performance and sound quality).
Anyway, nice collection there.

I have it too along with others.
So far Music Matters 33 reissue sounds the best but I would love to listen to the original first pressing some day.
Music Matters 33 Cool Struttin' is also excellent. But I've only compared it to Classic Records reissue and newer Blue Note reissues and CD.
I've settled for a couple of later (seventies) solid blue label re-issues. Those sounded just fine to my ear. I don't have --even one-- original issue Blue Note record. Everything I have is either a Liberty or later reissue. On the positive side, I got the music without having to pay a small fortune.

Spinning the best recorded LP in my entire collection, to wit:
Analogue Productions really outdid themselves with this 2009 re-issue.
Glad I bought two copies.
Opus 33 1/3
Listened to Breaking Silence last night. You are right it is one of the better ones but not my best. That goes to Ray Brown "Moonlight Serenade" with Laurindo Almeida. It's a direct to disc. Well, we all have our favorites......
