actually mini compound microscopes. They both have objective and eyepiece lenses that invert the image, and they both have a small depth of field. This makes hand held viewing very difficult.
My 10X loupe like your 30X loupe is just a simple microscope with a good depth of field and that does not invert the image. For gross examination of the stylus, the 10X is not bad, so I can see how much more useful your 30X loupe can be.

I have had one for a year and it works fine for me after that is a large one drawing a blank but it is size wise is roughly 3 by 5 it has a light and you put that sucker over a what you think is a clean lp and it shows dirt that you would have missed amazing how important cleaning an LP is. Just knocked me out how much it showed in the groves Enough said.
