Just can't bring myself to get her an all in one Crosley. Maybe I should. Just want a stand alone player for her room to play 45 singles. In the end I suppose any working player on ebay would be fine, was just wondering if there might be anything I should be on the look out in particular. Thanks!

And she loves it. Yes it runs fast, but it works, is easy to use, looks cool and reminds me of when I was a kid.
Now if she's older, I'd consider an Audiotechnica fully automatic table with built in preamp and a pair of Audioengine powered speakers.
She is about the right age for that. It isn't a bad option. I just want her to be able to play her favorite John Denver song and the like!
go through local CL find a decent working MidFi rack system ...i bet there is one around a 100 bucks with a working TT.

Would be a great idea but I need something I can fit in her room as in a closet or under her bed!

Hi Paully,If you daughter is not primarily an audiophile and you want to create the experience an old RCA player is probably the best choice. They were and are available as just changers or complete record players with speakers.
I gave an eBay linc. You can see these things in action on U-tube. They can be had for very little money on eBay not working or for a good bit more restored. Figure about $100 for a cartridge and rubber parts. They are not all the hard to work on and the parts are available from Voice of Music.
The later RP 190 is the simpler machine and is the one which I restored. It will change records rapidly but if you want blazing speed and have the nerve to tackle a more complicated RP 168 it can drop a record and be playing it in one revolution of the platter.
There is a guy named Chris Cuff who posts on U-tube who restores and sells these players. I'm pretty sure he will do yours if you get in over your head.

Sorry to get back so late but school finally ended and I have time now. Methanol for the great information, I am looking through it and it is a great place to start,
and I was trying to come up with a method to install a magnetic or ceramic cartridge to replace the old, dissolved crystal unit. My 45 J2 should be no problem, but my 45 EY3 all-in-one may need some mod for increasing the cartridge output. At least you have given me a start.
Hi Alaskahiatt,
Just over a year ago an other Vinylengine member and I bought and restored our 45 J 2 record changers.
I linked the string chronicling the restoration of our respective machines.
Hugh used a stereo ceramic cartridge strapped to mono while I used a stereo magnetic cartridge and converted the machine to stereo. I even retained the muting function by using the existing mono muting switch to switch a two pole relay. The details of both approaches is in the string.

Here is a link to the Voice of Music Place. They are good people.
And a ton of other useful links on their site. Thanks for that!
