I changed the original out a few years ago. Do you have any recommendations for mats? I think the Thorens 3XX series is a bit under-appreciated. I also have a TD166 mk II in a secondary system that I am quite happy with. I use Grado wood bodies in both w/o any problems with tracking or hum. I use a Statement in the main system and a Sonata in the secondary system.

"I changed the original out a few years ago. Do you have any recommendations for mats?"I've tried several different mats, but certainly not all that are out there. Probably the best mat I tried (and heard) was a Boston Audio mat2 on it. However the Mat 2 is a bit thick at 5mm for that platter and center pin. ( A mat1 should be a functional fit) But it was clearly the best sounding mat I've tried on my TD150 R7. Second best is a Herbies.
Prior to those two commercial mats I've tried many different diy mats out of a variety of different materials. And I continue to experiment with different mats and materials to this day.
"I think the Thorens 3XX series is a bit under-appreciated."Probably, the reason for that is that not so many made it over to North America due to ill-fated timing. ... The introduction of the TD3xx series coincided with the introduction of the Compact Disk. The fickle whims of the American consumer.... so hungry to glomb onto the next technological advancement...and so eager to abandon its vinyl. There are not nearly so many TD3xx or 2xxx series in this country simply because so few were ever sold here. It looks to me like an advancement over their previous models. At some time or another I'll collect them.
I should try one or another of the wood bodied Grado's some time.
