i've always wanted one of these, but I don't know if the price is already too high. It does have a NOS cart still in box and those seem to be rare.
What do you guys think?

An auction with 2 days left & currently over $100 on an untested full auto table. Description says it powers on. Powering this table on would at least make the platter turn, no mention of that. It looks like a mounting bracket is all that's in the pictured cart box, so the 10E cart is on the arm with who knows how many hours of play. The 10E was a BOTL cart for this table. I had an early 80s BO 1600 which looked nearly identical. Long story short, I'd pass.

Tha ks! I was thinking the same after some research but I know zip about B and O. Another 100 bucks for the vpi fund!
I was given one free and that price might be a rip-off!

I'm glad I checked in here first. I think you may be right. I have been curious about how B&O turntables sound but I think I will wait for another one, maybe higher up on the product chain.
They are not bad, but the best thing about them was the cartridge, which is excellent. You can still get a new cartridge from Soundsmith, but a replacement SMMC4 is $200. Add another $100 if you want nude mount.

I had the 8002 with the MMC2 cartridge (shabata cut with sapphire cantilever). I was absolutely floored when I got my VPI Scout with a Benz Ace LOMC, never looked back.
I'm not sure if it was an 80's versus 2000's technology thing or a mass thing but the VPI made the B&O sound like a child's record player.
You might like the MMC2 a lot better on the VPI! (Too late, I would expect.)
Dave
stop fucking around and just save up my pennies for a VPI...right? This is what I'm doing, but every time I see a nice working table for $20 bucks like that Denon I got the other day, I find it hard to leave it on the shelf to gather dust.
I have a Denon DP-1200 (among other tables) so I know what you are talking about. I wouldn't say don't buy the bargains. I would say stay away from the ones that are not really much of a bargain. With the high cost of the cartridge for the B&O and the questionable state of repair, I don't think that one is much of a bargain. I work with vintage turntables and they can require a lot of work, like a complete recap. If you can't do it yourself, it costs a fortune.
